We need mentors in all areas. Each semester, we have about 10 participants in the program. While we might not have a match for you this semester, we will definitely keep your contact information for future semesters.

Lillian Aguirre Ortiz- President
Lillian graduated from Rice University and was one of the original participants in Latinas on the Rise. She previously worked as a children and youth advocate at the Houston Area Women’s Center, as a truancy case manager for the Mayor's Anti-Gang Office, and as a parenting educator at DePelchin Children's Center. Lillian currently serves as Representative Farrar's Legislative Assistant while pursuing a masters degree in social work at the University of Houston.

Leticia Manzano- Vice President
Letty is currently the Manager of Counseling and Advocacy Non-Residential Services at the Houston Area Women’s Center. At HAWC, she has been a domestic violence and sexual abuse counselor and educator for children, teens, and adults. She graduated from the University of Houston and is widely recognized in the greater Houston community for her knowledge on domestic and sexual violence issues. She frequently presents on issues related to interpersonal violence and oppression.

Elizabeth Castrellon-Secretary/Treasurer
Elizabeth graduated from Rice University and participated in Latinas on the Rise as a student. She previously worked with Children’s Court Services at the Houston Area Women’s Center, and she is currently a sexual assault counselor at HAWC. Elizabeth is the newest member of the Latinas on the Rise Board.

Jessica Farrar- Founder
Representative Farrar was first elected in 1994 to the Texas House of Representatives. She represents north Houston inside loop 610. Representative Farrar is a strong and vocal advocate for women’s issues. She dedicates a large portion of her time to helping young women reach their goals.
